MediaTek unable to replicate success in 3G, smartphone chip market

Although the white-box handset market has continued to grow, MediaTek is facing market share decline and margin erosion. Taiwan-based handset makers indicated that MediaTek's plan to replicate its successful model for 2G solutions in developing its 3G handset and smartphone businesses are not yielding expected results as the 3G and 2G ecosystems are vastly different.
