Amazon loses less money with Kindle Fire HD, says IHS

The low-end 7-inch Kindle Fire HD that has 16GB of NAND flash and Wi-Fi wireless carries a bill of materials (BOM) cost of US$165.00, according to research firm IHS. When the US$9.00 manufacturing cost is added in, the cost to produce the model increases to US$174.00 in terms of the hardware and manufacturing costs but not for additional expenses such as software, licensing, royalties or other expenditures.
