Top-5 spenders to represent 64% of total chip capex in 2012, says IC Insights

Intel and four other large semiconductor suppliers are expected to account for almost two-thirds of industry-wide capital expenditures in 2012, according to IC Insights. The top-5 spenders – Samsung Electronics with US$13.1 billion; Intel with US$11.2 billion; TSMC with US$8.3 billion; SK Hynix with US$3.7 billion; and Globalfoundries with US$3.1 billion – are forecast to account for 64% of total semiconductor industry spending in 2012, said the market research firm.
