The European Commission announced that most of the leading mobile phone makers have come to the agreement to adopt the microUSB port as a standard European charger socket.
This will allow people to use one charger for all the handsets they have around the house.
This is not only convenient but also shrinks the volume of waste caused by unwanted phone accessories. Each year approximately 4 000 tons of accessories are thrown away by users, which change their phone and no longer need the incompatible accessories.
Many companies incl. Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, RIM, etc. have already started producing microUSB compatible devices while others like Apple and Sony Ericsson should follow them in the beginning of next year.
