Sony Ericsson handset metrics - Q4 2008

Sony Ericsson has been on uneven ground for some time, and finds itself in a precarious position now. The company posted a $247 million loss in the fourth quarter, down from a profit of $495 million in the year-ago period, as sales dropped amid weakening consumer demand during the economic recession. Sony Ericsson CEO Hideki Komiyama recently said that the company would focus on high-end devices, even if that meant a less diverse portfolio for the time being, and that he expected a challenging 2009. The company also recently dealt with a bout of corporate espionage. Q4 numbers:

Sales: $3.86 billion
Units shipped: 24.2 million
Average selling price: $160.69
Market share: 8 percent
